Getting started with Ins Autopilot
From installing the extension to your first confirmed action: the smallest loop that proves everything is wired up correctly.
What this helps you do
Ins Autopilot is a Chrome extension that works inside the Instagram tab you already have open. There is no separate dashboard to learn, no account to link with a password, and no server-side queue that keeps running when your browser is closed.
This guide walks the smallest possible loop: install the extension, prove it can see your signed-in session, run a deliberately small Follow session, and then find those same accounts in the extension's own records. If that loop works, everything else in Ins Autopilot works the same way.
Before you start
- Chrome, or another Chromium-based browser, on desktop.
- An Instagram account you are already signed in to in that browser.
- A few minutes and some patience. Keep your first session small on purpose so you can watch every step.
Step by step
- Install from the Chrome Web Store — add Ins Autopilot to your browser and pin it to the toolbar, so you can open it from any Instagram page.
- Open instagram.com and confirm you are signed in — sign in the normal way if you are not. There is no separate login screen for the extension and it never asks for your credentials.
- Open the panel from the toolbar — click the extension icon while an Instagram tab is open. The panel opens alongside the page and follows you as you move around Instagram.
- Check the footer for your account ID — the footer shows the numeric Instagram account the extension currently sees. That number is read from the session cookie your browser already holds. It is how the extension knows who you are, and it is what keeps each account's records separate.
- Run a small Follow session — open the Follow tab, point it at an audience source, and set the daily limit low on purpose. Press Start, then let the session finish rather than leaving it running unattended.
- Read the Recent log and the header counter — the Recent log lists what happened to each account, including the ones that were skipped and why. The header counter shows how many successes you have today.
- Find the same person in Today and Relationships — the contact now exists in Relationships, with its own Activity timeline. Today is the short list of contacts that need a decision, and it only shows a card for one of five fixed reasons, so a fresh follow usually appears in Relationships first.
We never ask for your password
Ins Autopilot has no password field, no login screen and no account-linking step. It runs inside the Instagram tab you are already signed in to and reads your identity from the session cookie your browser already owns. Your password is never typed into the extension and never leaves your browser.
Everything the extension records about your contacts is kept in local browser storage, per Instagram account, and is not uploaded. Tracked links are the single exception: the destination URL and an opaque contact reference go to the server so a click can be recorded.
This is also why the extension stops working the moment you sign out of Instagram. There is no separate credential for it to fall back on.
Limits and important behavior
- Daily caps are product usage limits, not Instagram safety thresholds. Free accounts get 10 follows, 10 unfollows and 10 likes per day. Comment and DM are not included on Free: both are 0.
- Monthly Pro raises follow, unfollow and likes to 200 each per day and adds 30 comments and 30 DMs. Annual raises them to 250 and 50. Pricing is $29 per month, or $249 per year.
- Free binds 1 Instagram account. Pro binds up to 3.
- Ins Autopilot sends nothing without an action you start. There is no trigger that messages new followers, and following someone does not guarantee they follow you back.
- Automation carries risk that depends on your account's state and on platform limits. Staying under the caps does not remove that risk.
Keep your first run small and watch it end to end. A large unattended session on an account you have not tested is where problems start.
Troubleshooting
- The footer is empty and the panel says it cannot see an account.
- Open instagram.com and sign in normally, then reopen the panel. The extension reads your session from the page, so it needs a live Instagram tab to work from.
- The extension icon does nothing when I click it.
- Check that the tab you are on is instagram.com rather than another site, and that the extension is enabled and pinned. Reload the Instagram tab and try again.
- My Follow session skipped almost everyone.
- Your filters are probably too narrow, or the source list was small to begin with. Skipped accounts never spend your daily cap. See How to find and follow the right Instagram accounts.
- Where is my data stored?
- The ledger lives in your own browser, per Instagram account, and is not uploaded. If you clear site data for instagram.com or use a different browser profile, those records will not be there.
