How to find and follow the right Instagram accounts
Pick an audience, filter out the accounts you do not want, set a daily cap, and know why a follow was skipped.
What this helps you do
Follow is how you build the audience everything else works from. A run takes a source you choose, such as the followers of a profile or the people who liked a post, and follows the accounts in it that pass your filters.
Getting the source and the filters right matters more than running a large session. Following the wrong thousand accounts is not progress.
Where the accounts come from
- A profile's followers — people who already chose to follow an account like yours.
- A profile's following — useful when you want the audience of someone your target audience already follows.
- A post's likers — people who engaged with one specific piece of content.
- A post's commenters — a smaller group, usually with stronger intent than likers.
Work one source at a time so you can tell which source actually produced the contacts worth talking to.
Smart filters
- Minimum and maximum followers — exclude accounts that are too small to matter and accounts that are too large to notice you.
- Minimum and maximum following — a shape filter. An account following thousands of people behaves differently from one following a hundred.
- Profile picture — accounts without one are often inactive or throwaway, so you can leave them out.
- Filters run before the follow is attempted, so a filtered account is never contacted and never spends part of your daily cap.
Step by step
- Open Follow — the panel opens on the Follow tab with the current account already resolved.
- Set the source — choose the profile or post you want to work from and which list to read, followers or following.
- Apply your filters — set the follower, following and profile-picture thresholds that match the audience you actually want.
- Set the daily cap with the slider — keep the number modest, especially on a new account. The cap is a maximum, not a target.
- Press Start — the session works through the list and records the outcome for each account.
- Read the Recent log — every followed account and every skipped account appears with its reason. The header counter shows today's successes.
- Use Pause or Stop — pause holds the session with its progress intact; stop ends it. Neither undoes what was already followed.
Why an account was skipped
- Already connected — you already follow them, or the relationship is already mutual, so there is nothing to add.
- Filtered out — the account failed one of the thresholds you set.
- Protected or inaccessible — the account cannot be followed, or its list cannot be read.
- Inside a grace window — an account you acted on recently is left alone for a while so the same person is not touched twice in a short period.
- Reported by the page — an account may be skipped for a reason the extension did not cause, such as an account that no longer exists.
Skipped accounts never spend your daily cap. If almost every account is being skipped, widen your filters before you raise the cap.
Limits and honest boundaries
- Daily follow cap: 10 on Free, 200 on Monthly Pro, 250 on Annual. Unfollow and Likes each have their own separate allowance.
- These caps are product usage limits, not Instagram safety thresholds. Staying under the cap does not make a run safe; risk depends on your account's state and on platform limits.
- Following someone does not guarantee they follow back. There is no follow-back guarantee anywhere in the product, and no message is sent automatically to people who follow you.
- The list you follow from is not yours. Its owner can change it at any time, so the same source will not always produce the same accounts.
Troubleshooting
- The run finished in seconds.
- The source list was small, or your filters removed most of it. Check the Recent log: if everything is marked as filtered, loosen the thresholds.
- Everyone is being skipped.
- You have probably already followed this audience, or the grace window is covering accounts you acted on recently. Try a different source rather than repeating the same one.
- Can I follow and unfollow on the same day?
- Follow and Unfollow have separate daily allowances, and Unfollow has its own rules for accounts you recently followed. See Unfollowing without breaking a relationship.
- My cap did not reset at midnight.
- Caps refresh daily. If you have been running sessions across a time-zone boundary, watch the header counter rather than the clock.
