How to use Monitor and warm activity

Monitor tracks new followers, new likes and DM replies, and puts them in one list so you can decide who to follow up with yourself.

Applies to Ins Autopilot 3.22 and later · Updated 2026-10-17

What this helps you do

Monitor answers one question: who just did something that gives you a reason to reach out? It watches three kinds of events on your Instagram account and puts them in a single list, so you can decide who is worth a follow-up instead of hunting through notifications.

It is a listening tool first and a sending tool second. Monitor shows you what happened; you choose who to act on. Turning it on does not queue anything, and an event appearing in the list is not an action taken on your behalf.

What this is not

Monitor does not message everyone who follows you. Ins Autopilot has no platform-level trigger that fires when a new follower arrives, so nothing is sent the moment someone follows you.

The optional template DM is a rule you switch on yourself, for the event types you choose, with a template you wrote. It is not a default, and it is not a platform trigger. If you leave it off, Monitor only observes.

If you have seen tools that message every new follower automatically, that is a different capability. Here you decide whether a template applies at all, and you can switch it off at any time.

Before you start

  • You are signed in to Instagram in the same browser, and the extension shows your account in the footer.
  • Monitor is a Pro feature. Free accounts do not have it — see Outreach Trial for what free accounts can do instead.
  • If you plan to use the template DM, write the template first and be clear about which events it should apply to.
  • Keep the Instagram tab somewhere you can leave it open. The next two sections explain why that matters.

Step by step

  1. Open Monitor — choose which of the three event types you want to watch. You can watch all three, or just one.
  2. Pick your sources — for new followers and new likes, choose the profile or post you want to watch. DM replies are read from conversations that already exist.
  3. Decide about the template DM — leave it off if you only want to observe. If you turn it on, choose the template and confirm which events it applies to. This is a deliberate opt-in, never a default.
  4. Start watching — Monitor begins reading your Instagram pages and adds matched events to the list as they appear.
  5. Review each event — the list shows what happened and when. Open the contact if you want to read the conversation before deciding.
  6. Follow up yourself — for anything worth an answer, use Direct Message or start a follow-up sequence. For everything else, no action is required.
  7. Check History — History keeps the record of what Monitor saw and what was sent from your account, so you can look back later.

The three event types

  • New follower — someone started following you.
  • New like — someone liked one of the posts you selected to watch.
  • DM reply — someone replied in a Direct Message thread that already exists between you.
  • The first two can optionally trigger a template DM on Pro. The third never does: a reply is information, and answering it should stay your decision.

Replies are the strongest signal in the list and the one Monitor is most careful about. It reports them; it never answers them.

Monitor only works while Instagram is readable

Monitor reads Instagram pages from your own browser. It only sees events while the relevant Instagram page is open and readable in the browser you are using.

If you close the browser, sign out, or leave the extension unable to read the page, Monitor does not run. It will not watch for you in the background, and it will not catch up on what happened while you were away.

This is the honest shape of the feature. Treat Monitor as a window you leave open, not a service running on a server somewhere.

If nothing was visible to the extension, Monitor has no record of it. A quiet list can mean nothing happened — or that nothing was being read.

Limits and important behavior

  • Monitor is Pro. Free accounts do not have it.
  • Monitor records the events it can read. It cannot report what it never saw.
  • Template DMs are bounded by your plan's DM allowance — 30 per day on Monthly Pro and 50 per day on Annual. Free accounts have no DM allowance at all. Monitor does not create extra room.
  • Every template DM goes through the same delivery decision as a message you send by hand, and ends in the same statuses: sent, blocked, failed, skipped or unknown.
  • An unknown result is never retried automatically. It waits for a human decision.

Automation carries risk that depends on your account's state and on platform limits. Monitor is not a way around those limits, and no setting here guarantees any particular result.

Troubleshooting

Monitor shows nothing at all.
Check that the Instagram page is open and readable in the browser running the extension. If the page is closed, you are signed out, or the extension cannot read the page, Monitor has nothing to work from.
The template DM did not go out for a new follower.
Check whether the template is switched on and whether you still have DM allowance for the day. A template DM still passes the same delivery decision as any other send, so a blocked result means the extension refused before sending anything. See Sent, blocked, unknown and Needs Review explained.
Someone replied, but nothing happened in Monitor.
That is expected. A reply is reported as an event and never triggers a send on its own — answering is your call.
Can Monitor watch anything else?
No. This version watches new followers, new likes and DM replies — those three are the whole list.
