How to scan and remove Instagram reposts
Repost Cleanup finds reposts on your profile, shows you candidates, and removes the ones you select. Deletion is permanent, so review first.
What Repost Cleanup does
If your profile has accumulated reposts over the years, working through them by hand in the Instagram app is slow and easy to get wrong. Repost Cleanup finds them for you, puts the candidates in one list, and lets you select what to remove and submit the removals in a batch.
The important thing to understand up front is the shape of the flow: scanning reads, selecting decides, submitting asks Instagram to act, and verification confirms what actually happened. You stay in control of the selection at every point.
Before you start
- You are signed in to Instagram in the same browser, and the extension shows your account ID.
- You are viewing the reposts section of your own profile, at
instagram.com/<your-username>/reposts/. - Free plan includes Repost Cleanup within a quota: 10 verifications and 10 submissions. Pro raises this to 200 verifications and 300 submissions.
- You are not looking at another Instagram account's profile. Cleanup works on the account whose profile you have open.
Scanning is read-only
The scan does not delete anything, and it does not change your profile. It walks the reposts page, identifies what looks like a repost, and builds a candidate list with a count so you can see the scale before you decide anything.
Because scanning is read-only, you can run it as often as your quota allows without any risk to your content. Running a scan costs you nothing on your profile — you only spend quota when you verify or submit.
A candidate is a candidate, not a decision. Nothing is removed until you select it and submit.
Step by step
- Open your reposts page — go to
instagram.com/<your-username>/reposts/in the same browser where the extension is installed. - Start the scan — run the scan and wait for it to finish. It reads the page and produces the candidate list and a count.
- Review the candidates — look through the list before selecting anything. If a candidate does not look like something you want removed, leave it unselected.
- Enter selection mode and tick the ones you want gone — selection is explicit. Only the items you tick are submitted.
- Submit the batch — the extension submits the selected removals to Instagram. At this point they are submitted, not yet removed.
- Verify the batch — run the verification step so the extension can confirm which of the submitted reposts actually came down. Only then are they counted as removed.
- Use Scan Again if you want a fresh picture — this re-scans the page and refreshes the report, so the counts reflect the current state of your profile.
Removed versus Submitted
These two counters are not the same thing, and reading them correctly matters.
Removed N reposts is the verified count. Those reposts were submitted and then confirmed as gone. This is the number you can trust.
Submitted N reposts is the pending count. Those reposts were sent to Instagram but have not yet been confirmed as removed. They may still come down — or they may not. Until verification runs, they are not counted as removed.
If you see a submitted count that is larger than the removed count, that is the normal in-between state, not a failure. Verify when you are ready, or run Scan Again to re-scan and refresh the report.
Report the two numbers separately when you talk about results. "Submitted" is a request; "Removed" is a verified outcome.
When the extension refuses to click
Cleanup is deliberately cautious. If there is an item it still needs to double-check, or if the selection boxes on the page are not unambiguous — the same-looking control found more than once, layout that does not match what is expected — the extension declines to click rather than guessing.
The practical result can look like nothing happening: you pressed the button and no repost disappeared. That is the guardrail working. The extension would rather do nothing than remove the wrong post, so it stops instead of risking an irreversible mistake on the wrong item.
If a button seems to do nothing, do not press it repeatedly. Refresh the page, confirm you are on your own reposts page with the right account signed in, and try again.
Deletion is permanent
- Removing a repost cannot be undone. Instagram does not give you a recycle bin for this, and the extension cannot restore what it removed.
- Review the candidate list before submitting. It is far cheaper to leave an item unselected than to remove the wrong one.
- Large batches are harder to check afterwards. If you are unsure about an item, leave it and deal with it in a later pass.
- The scan itself is safe and repeatable. The irreversible step is the removal, not the scan.
Treat every submission as final. Select carefully, submit once, and verify afterwards.
Common questions
- The counter shows submitted reposts but removed is still zero.
- The removals have been submitted but not yet verified. Run the verification step, or Scan Again to re-scan and refresh the report. Do not submit the same items again as a workaround.
- I hit the quota limit.
- Free includes 10 verifications and 10 submissions; Pro includes 200 and 300. Wait for the quota to refresh, or move to Pro. See Ins Autopilot troubleshooting.
- Nothing happened when I pressed the button.
- That is usually the refusal behavior described above: a pending double-check or an ambiguous selection control. Refresh the page and confirm the account and page first.
- Can I get a removed repost back?
- No. Removal is irreversible. The extension has no undo.
